The number of alehouse keepers and bakers in Manchester was declared by the Lord of the Council to be excessive, and orders given for the suppression of a number of them.(7)

1583. Radcliffe
The Radcliffe estate, with the Hall and Tower, sold by Thomas Radcliffe, third Earl of Sussex, to Andrew Barton, of Smithells Hall. After passing through various hands it was purchased by Earl Wilton.
