A Compendious Character of the Celebrated Beauties of Manchester, written in the year 1709, appears in Heywood’s Letters and Editions, 1726. The writer says that “many scandalous pamphlets and scurrilous lampoons” had appeared reflecting upon the ladies. Heywood’s notice is reprinted in Earwaker’s Local Gleanings, No. 494.(7)
