Sir Oswald Mosley, lord of the manor, died.
He was the eldest son of Oswald Mosley of Ancoats and Rolleston, who in
1720 declined a baronetcy, which was then accepted by his son. In 1693 he tried,
unsuccessfully, to impose a tax upon each pack of Manchester wares brought into
the manor. (Mosley’s Family Memoirs; Axon’s Lancashire Gleanings.)(7)
