The Higson Family
The Higson Family of Gorton, Lancashire
Another John Higson, who was a London carrier owning 80 pack horses, moved from Worsley to Grindlow Heath Farm, Gorton and thus began a long line of Higsons in Gorton. These include Daniel Higson who was the chairman and director of Higson's Brewery, Liverpool and his brother John, who wrote books and many newspaper articles on the local history of S.E. Lancashire.
Charles Ethelbert and Jane Letitia, two children of this well known author, were also responsible for donating a recreation ground in Lees, in memory of their brother William who was a councilor in Lees, near Oldham, until his death in 1920.
