MIDDLE HULTON

Middle Hulton is a township, in the parish of Deane, South - Eastern division of the county, hundred of Salford, Bolton union and county court district, 3 miles south - south - west from Bolton. The township abounds with coal. The poor have 42 yearly in clothing from the "Leigh" charity. The Earl of Ellesmere is lord of the manor and the principal landowner. The soil and subsoil are various. The chief crops are wheat, oats, turnips and pasture. The acreage is 1,517; rateable value, 5,307; the population in 1871 was 911.
