The Salford Hundred Townships

This section has been set up to display historical and genealogical information covering the south east corner of the pre 1974 county of Lancashire. The area is now known as Greater Manchester and was anciently known as the Salford Hundred, one of six hundreds that made up the old county of Lancashire.

Salford Hundred consisted of possibly one hundred townships (Whitworth & Brandwood although listed as a township may only be a division of Spotland township). All townships are covered by nineteenth century descriptions, and more.

Although the Salford Hundred as a whole will be covered, the western portion together with Manchester which is centrally positioned within the hundred, will be the main area of interest.

All sources will be described and their location given.
